OK, it’s late, but before I go to bed I do want to add on that the Guardians have reportedly acquired RHP Luis Ortiz from the Pirates for Spencer Horwitz. The Guardians also acquired two young pitching prospects as well. There may be more players in the deal but that has yet to be reported.
Needless to say, this changes things to a degree. Luis Ortiz had a relatively solid breakout year for the Pirates, pitching 135.2 innings of 3.37 ERA ball (15 starts). That’s pretty darned good, and he’s only 25. We shall see what else Cleveland may have given up in the deal, but Luis Ortiz definitely slots into our rotation immediately and provides a huge boost. He certainly fits the roster better, as constructed, than Spencer Horwitz.
Needless to say, I thought the whole deal as announced earlier would be just that: the whole deal. Obviously there’s more to the story here, and I jumped the gun. For that I apologize. I’ll take a look at this second deal and write up more thoughts on it tomorrow.
Sorry for the mix up hope everyone had a good evening!
